The studio notebook / Decisions

Your website is a project. Its care is a choice.

Before choosing a web designer, understand what you are buying today and what will need attention later. These are the distinctions worth discussing.

The build and the running costs.

A website build covers the agreed work to design and develop the site. Hosting is the service that makes it available online. A domain is the address people use to reach it. Maintenance and content work are further responsibilities.

A one-time build price does not automatically remove every future expense. Equally, a monthly payment does not tell you which changes or support are included. Ask for the scope behind the model.

Questions about ownership and access.

Before starting, clarify who controls the domain, which accounts are involved, what access you receive and which parts of the work you can take with you.

Images, fonts and external tools can have their own licences or subscriptions. A useful agreement distinguishes those from the design and code delivered for your project.

  • Who is the registered domain owner?
  • What access and handover are included?
  • What is included in hosting or maintenance?
  • Which content changes need a separate quote?
  • What happens if you change provider or stop ongoing care?

Choose care based on the work you want to handle.

If you want to focus on your business, having a direct contact for agreed changes may be valuable. If you prefer to manage the website yourself, discuss the practical requirements and handover before choosing a solution.

Consider the frequency and size of changes, not only the monthly figure. Updating a paragraph is a different job from adding a new service section or replacing a booking system.

How WebLevitation approaches it.

I start with a free, no-obligation proposal. If you choose to continue, we agree on a one-time price for the website. Hosting, relevant updates and agreed content changes can be covered through optional ongoing care.

The details are discussed for your project before paid work starts. There are no published prices or assumed unlimited-support commitments. The aim is a clear agreement that matches what your business needs.

No cost. No commitment.
